Housing Rehabilitation

The Housing Division provides financial assistance to local homeowners to ensure that their homes are “safe, clean and livable”. The division administers a housing rehabilitation grant / loan program to help homeowners address health and safety concerns with their manufactured, townhomes, and site built homes. The programs available include an emergency repair program and a complete housing rehabilitation program.

The purpose and goals of the programs include:
  1. The elimination of health and safety hazards in homes;
  2. To benefit low to moderate income residents; and
  3. To improve neighborhoods and encourage stability.
Detailed information regarding the City's program can be found in the Housing Rehabilitation Program Guidelines which will include information about the program process, financing, homeowner requirements, contractor requirements, eligibility requirements, the grievance procedure and so much more. Guidelines are regularly reviewed and adopted by the City Council.

If you wish to apply for housing rehabilitation services and/or are in need of assistance in the preparation of an application, assistance will be provided, at no charge, through the housing division.

Applications are available:
  1. On-line - print a copy to submit;
  2. For pick-up - City of Apache Junction, Development Services Department at 300 E. Superstition Blvd.;
  3. By mail - call (480) 474-2635 to request a copy; or
  4. A spanish version of the application may also be obtained as above or online at Aplicación para el Programa de Rehabilitación del Hogar
Lead Paint is often found in homes built before 1978. If you are found to be eligible, your home will be tested. Information regarding lead paint can be found in the following brochure published by the EPA: Lead Based Paint
Although the City's program can address many items, homeowners may find themselves needing minor maintenance. Perhaps your toilet is leaking, or your door will not shut properly and you are unable to pay for the repairs. There is help for you - Angels on Call is a home repair service that is free for qualified applicants. For an application you may contact Angels on Call at (480) 668-0566 or the City at (480) 474-2635 for assistance.

Homeowners who need assistance installing ADA bars and ramps may receive assistance through Rebuilding Together's Fall Prevention Program.

Gilbert Cares is an organization that provided minor housing rehabilitation services to qualified individuals. If you do not qualify under the city's program, you may wish to contact Gilbert Cares at (480) 857-8581.

If you are not a resident of Apache Junction, you may find similar assistance through the following agencies: Pinal County, Maricopa County (602)506-5911), CAHRA, USDA Rural Development (602) 280-8755), Arizona Community Action Association or by contacting your local government offices. Specifically, for Maricopa County island residents with Apache Junction addresses, you will need to seek assistance through the Foundation for Senior Living. They can be reached at (602) 532-2976.
