There is apparently
misinformation on social media channels that question who you should call to
report suspicious activity or criminal activity. The first call that you should
make is to your local police department. When you call a friend or family
member, post it on Facebook, Snapchat or Twitter, it only delays the
appropriate response from law enforcement. It could mean the difference between
stopping a crime and responding to take a report of a crime after it’s too late.
Call your local police department first!
take your telephone call, or 9-1-1 text if unable to call, they will assess
your situation and get the appropriate help on the way whether it is police, fire
or emergency medical services. This is the proper way to react to a potential
suspicious, criminal or emergency situation, whether it is in progress or not.
Law enforcement agencies
typically do not monitor web pages or social media channels on a continuous
basis. In Apache Junction and the surrounding area, there are emergency 9-1-1
operators available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to help you. Posting on
social media should always be after the appropriate agency has been alerted and
responded. While being a great source of communication, social media is not
always the most accurate source and is truly not the one to report an emergency
