Library Writer-in-Residence

The Apache Junction Public Library continues the popular Writer in Residence program with Valerie Ipson, author of children, teen and adult fiction.

Valerie Ipson

Inevitably Ipson’s young adult books are set in high school, and while it’s not something she ever wants to relive, she finds writing through the fictional eyes of her main characters a pretty chill experience. In addition to penning picture books and novels, Ipson was a contributing writer and genealogy columnist for a regional newspaper until retiring after 17 years to write fiction fulltime. Currently she is finishing production on two picture books.

The library, at 1177 N. Idaho Road, is open, but not currently offering in-person programs. Instead Ipson will hold virtual office hours via Zoom on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. She will also post writing prompts and tips and host virtual programs throughout her residency. Registration is required. To register, contact the library at (480) 474-8555, and for additional information, visit

All programs are free. The Writer in Residence Program was made possible by the Arizona State Library, a division of the Secretary of State’s office, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The city of Apache Junction invites and welcomes people of all disabilities to use our programs, sites and facilities. Any question about library services for people with disabilities can be answered by our library ADA coordinator (480) 474-8555, TTY 711, or Additional information may be found at
